Emily Thompson is a Brooklyn-based sculptor and floral designer. She designs flower bouquets, displays and all sorts of decor for parties, weddings, and other events, and provides weekly and bi-weekly arrangements for private homes, restaurants, and other businesses.

Her custom wreaths can be delivered in the NYC area or shipped nationwide. Emily also designs seasonal window decor for restaurants, retail stores and shop windows. Emily started working with flowers in 2000, after finishing her MFA in sculpture. She and her sister Polly wanted to do something dramatic and unusual for Polly's wedding, so they decided to see what they could pick up at the wholesale market in NY (long-stemmed artichokes and pineapples!) and drive them six hours north for a flamboyant yet rustic blowout. Soon Emily started getting requests for parties. These were never ordinary affairs with ordinary flowers; they were lavish extravaganzas with blossoms exploding out of their bouquets in brambly showers.Emily started Emily Thompson Flowers in 2004.

Her creations evoke a world of "old-fashioned flowers." This may mean they are baroque or romantic, full of garden roses and trailing vines,  or they may have a distinct 1960's feel, through asymmetry and dramatic tropicals.  Regardless of the style, her arrangements feel alive, wild, and occasionally sinister. She describes her aesthetic as flowers that look as if they grew that way, only better.

Article in TimeOut New York. Warning! The gold powder that the TimeOut folks picked to photograph is actually not edible!  Don't eat it!  There are plenty of other edible gold leaf options.  And while you're at it, don't drink out of galvanized containers!
