For Alison and Alex’s celebration, the reception began with a Japanese maple, Acer palmatum Elmwoodii, it’s root ball wrapped in burlap, atop a cushion of moss to display the escort cards. After the wedding, the tree was planted in Alison’s family garden to commemorate the occasion. Another tree grew in the underground cocktail space, this massive one constructed by our crew so guests could feel they were celebrating under its boughs. The design honored the couples’ heritage with pomegranates, honey, and beeswax candles gracing every table, a rich materiality and history in every note.
