Artist Mark Gagnon has been collaborating with Emily since she first opened the doors of her shop in the Seaport. Mark, who had recently begun turning his love of papier mâché towards experimenting with vessels and other objects, found himself at home with Emily’s ecclectic aesthetic, and so began to produce vases for the shop. In their collection for Bergdorf’s, Emily and Mark decided to bring hot, saturated hues and vibrant pattern to their designs with a nod towards fantasy and enchantments, to entice with color, then draw the eyes of BG patrons down to the earth. Each of Emily’s designs consisted of natural materials such as chestnuts, datura pods, okra and more, much of it foraged or grown locally and dried in our studio, distinctive forms in nature that complement Mark’s one-of-a-kind hand painted, fantastical papier mâché objects.
