To celebrate this iconic Cuban-born painter’s first New York exhibition in decades, we built exotic, sculptural spirals grounded in local pods and weeds, such as milkweed and datura. In an ode to Ms. Herrera’s sharp-edged abstraction, we selected foliages and seed heads with powerful geometries and patterns, not a flower to be seen.
